Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are your fees?

Tax preparation fees are calculated on the complexity of your tax return based on the forms used.  Prices start as low as $75.  An "average" itemized (sch. A) return for a married couple would typically cost $195 which include itemized deductions such as mortgage interest, property & state tax, charitable contributions, an analysis of deductibility of medical and unreimbursed employee & investment related expenses.

We offer free electronic filing of your federal & California tax return for no additional fee.  Additionally, we are available throughout the year to answer any quick questions you may have at no additional charge.  If your question need more details, analysis or tax planning, an additional fee will be charged

How quickly will I get my refund?

Most refunds are as fast as a week or less when you take advantage of our e-filing with direct deposit into your financial institution.  E-filing greatly speeds up processing time versus a traditional paper return.  You can save additional time if your refund is deposited directly into your credit union or bank.  Paper returns mailed by individuals and sent to the government agencies may take several weeks longer since they have to issue and mail out a paper check.

Due to the high fees charged for (RAL's) Refund Anticipation Loans, also known as, Same Day Refunds, Markland & Associates doesn't believe it's in the best interest for our clients.  These are high cost short term loans as tax agency are never able to process your return the quickly.  These loans typically charge extremely high interest rates and fees.
